We love Independence, Missouri, and are committed to it. The majority of Cargo Largo retail store employees were born and raised in Independence, including our Retail Director, John Belshe. Our CEO, Dee Pack, is a strong supporter of the Independence School District and a founding member of the Noland Rd. Community Improvement District. Did we mention that we love Independence? That love is why we’re so proud of the city’s economic and aesthetic strides towards becoming more modern. The Delaware venue and Gilbert, Whitney, & Co. boutique are just a couple of the businesses that are part of the transition. These aren't the only hidden gems Independence has to offer! Here are five cool things to do in Independence RIGHT NOW:
1. Courthouse Exchange (Home of the Best Tenderloins in Missouri)
Indulge in a Mac N Cheese Burger at Courthouse Exchange while relaxing on their patio, listening to live music. That’s right, I said “Mac N Cheese Burger”. It’s incredible and I’ll just go ahead and tell you, “You’re welcome” in advance. PLUS, their patio is awesome – string lights, tons of seating, and live music on Friday nights. Not to mention, the service is great. Does it get much better? Check out their summer events calendar here!
2. Adventure Oasis Water Park
Grab the kiddos and beat the heat at Adventure Oasis Water Park! This park features a lazy river, three huge water slides, an interactive family pool, a climbing wall, and lap pool. Right now, they’re running a Middle of Summer Pass special for 50% off the regular summer pass price. Learn more!
3. Farmer’s and Crafter’s Market
There’s nothing like fresh produce straight from the source! Summer visits to the Farmer’s Market are the perfect way to explore locally grown fruits and vegetables in addition to locally produced foods, goods, and crafts. The Independence, Missouri’s Farmer’s and Crafter’s Market is open Wednesdays and Saturdays and is located just South of the Historic Independence Square at the corner of W. Walnut Street and S. Liberty Street. It will be expanding soon, as the groundbreaking for the new facility happened back in February of this year. The $3.3 Million project looks to be completed later this season. It will provide a permanent structure for the market and will be located at the corner of W. Truman Rd. and N. Osage Street. Learn more!
Imagine the most gorgeous backyard filled with soothing fountains, tons of flowers, and delicious food. Now, throw in a unique shopping experience, including antiques and locally made goods. What do you have? Vivilore, one of Independence’s coolest dining experiences. Whether you’re dining inside Vivilore’s cottage-like restaurant or embracing fancy, summer time vibes on their beautiful patio, you’re in for a treat. Once you’ve finished your amazing meal, spend some time shopping the top two floors of the restaurant to browse their collection of art, antiques, home décor, and hand-crafted goods. You won’t be sorry. Make a reservation!
5. Cargo for Kids Backpack Stuffing
Interested in giving back to your community? Who isn’t?! What’s more, why not multi-task and invest in the next generation while you’re at it. If you haven’t heard, Cargo for Kids is a Cargo Largo initiative that focuses on providing children in need within the Independence School District (ISD) with essential school supplies and hygiene products. Every year, the community comes together to stuff backpacks with these items, which are then donated to the ISD to distribute accordingly. This year, the event will be Saturday, July 28th, from 10:00am - 11:30am. There will be music, food trucks, and more! Interested in helping out? Learn more here!
